Third Time Lucky!

Good news first, one vixen from last nights session taken on the field above the water meadow. There was a pair of them which were spotted by the keen eyes of Stephen hugging the top hedgerow and the game strip. It took roughly 30 minutes before one got in a safe position to shoot as we were in the water meadow field looking up towards the farm house. The distance was paced at approx 170 yards.

Previous to the successful kill I had missed two others, one a long shot across wind and the another which should of hit as it was around 150 yards distance. After the second miss a quick target was set up to ensure that the scope was on....and it was, so I can only put it down to fox fever when taking a quick shot.

Shoot Day 17th Jan 2009

Just a couple of pics from Saturday's shoot which I attended after the last two shoots missed re the pups. Shot a brace of red legs, one from the Worthy Park field and the second from the hedge row on the big field above the railway bank. Charlie was at his best hence the pic above, it was worth walking those extra few yards on the hedgerow as he ambushed the partridges, three came out and one came down! Hit a couple of pigeons as well, one was confirmed but the other flew on even after a fist full of feathers fluttered down.

The other picture is of black swan which is a rare site on the river. When it took off it did show that the wings were white tipped...?

Its been an age!

It has been a good few weeks since the last fox was bagged until last night. Ideal weather conditions with 100% cloud cover and a decent breeze although it was a little wet to start with. The dog fox was first spotted by Stephen on its way from the mustard strip towards Worthy Park pen. It would not respond to a squeak so it was a case of trying to ambush it as it worked its way down the strip. As we got to the bottom of the strip he was onto the big Worthy Park field heading into the wood by the School. Thankfully the wire fence held him a little and was duly dispatch by the excellent 55 grain darts that I use.

Unfortunately about a hour or so later the mechanical gremlin struck with diesel leaking fast from the truck. As seen Stephen trying to fix the problem which we could not so it was a early finish.

The other picture with the pigeons is the good result from Tristan and Kevin's earlier bash at the sky rats.

Freezing!

Took a mornings stalk earlier today, no roe doe's spotted so just some pics to show how cold it was.....well the more times you go the more chances you will get!

Lamping

Due to the pups arrival I have had no chance to get out at all, have missed two shoots in the mean time.
It is planned to go out tonight lamping after the fox's who have been given a rest for the last month or so. Hopefully this absence will have given the charlie's a good rest from the lamp and the vehicle noise thus presenting themselves as easy targets, I only wish!.
Anyway we must be bonkers to go due the freezing cold temp that is predicted, nothing ventured nothing gained!

Ellie & Lucy

Hi folks, it has been a while since I last caught up. All the normal excuses to hand what with Christmas etc plus one over riding factor being Lucy plus Ellie.

We collected the little darlings on the Sunday before the festive period and since then it's all gone mad!

Lucy (the tri colour basset) is a piglet when it come's to food, always on the look out for anything that looks like it tastes good. Even in the two short weeks that we have them they have grown by a third.
