First Buck Of The Year

After several stalks since the start of the buck season success was made yesterday morning at around 6.30am. This five pointer was first spotted after he and two does were spooked by a couple of partridges that took fright from a oil seed rape field at the top of the farm. The small group ran onto the large field to my left and proceeded up the middle before turning right behind a hedgerow. After a slow and careful stalk I glassed the deer again who had gone into another rape seed field. This needed another quiet walk until I could get around the other side and hopefully sit and wait until the buck would come out in between the crop and a hedgerow. It was only a ten minute wait until one of the does poked her nose out closely followed by the buck. One look down the scope to confirm the target and the trigger was squeezed. He dropped on the spot with a good heart/lung shot. The distant was approx 70 - 80 yards.
